Chevrolet to Get OnStar 4G LTE by 2014 Summer

Chevrolet Speeds Up With OnStar 4G LTE Chevrolet cars will be blazing through the streets in this summer as its new line up will bring the in-car infotainment to the next level through lightning fast OnStar 4G LTE connections powered by AT&T, a leading name in 4G LTE networking.

This Sunday at the CES in Las Vegas, Chevrolet declared that it will be integrating 4G LTE to its onboard OnStar infotainment system. The idea is to provide consumers with an enhanced in-car connectivity experience to enable them best utilize the OnStar services.

Furthermore, the vehicles will also be furnished with a Wi-Fi hotspot enabling the passengers to connect their handheld devices to the 4G connections and enjoy high speed uninterrupted internet on the go.

Mary Chan, president to the connected consumer department of GM addressing to a press release said, “we know that our customers rely on being connected on a daily, if not hourly basis, and they expect to be provided with the information and content they desire with no interruptions”. She further said, “A 4G LTE hotspot that’s built into a car’s architecture will provide a more consistent and powerful Wi-Fi connection than a smartphone.”

The models that will firstly be equipped with 4G LTE connectivity include: Impala, Malibu, 2015 Chevrolet Corvette and Volt. The second phase would include Equinox, Silverado, Silverado HD, Spark and Spark EV. More versions would be added to the list later this year, as the company plans a broad deployment of 4G LTE in its vehicles.

The Chevrolet AppShop

The 4G LTE connected cars will also be equipped with Chevrolet AppShop that would allow customers to personalize their connected cars as per their individual preferences. Chevrolet MyLink developed through the OnStar system is what will be powering the AppShop. Chief operating officer of OnStar, Terry Inch stated, “We are focused on constantly improving the OnStar service so that the system continues to remain a trusted value-add for GM drivers”. He further added that the 4G LTE will be providing the most powerful OnStar connection ever.

Nick Pudar, OnStar’s vice president of business development stated, “These applications are just a glimpse of what is possible when you combine the cloud computing capabilities of OnStar and the power of the Verizon 4G LTE network.” “Moving forward we want to continue to provide our customers with a comprehensive suite of connected services and create a seamless and safe in-vehicle experience,” he further added.

ONSTAR BRINGS THE POWER OF 4G LTE TO THE CHEVY VOLT

The inclusion of OnStar system would allow customers to use OnStar RemoteLink app to operate basic features remotely. These features include: remote ignition, lock and unlock, and activating lights and horn. The app is usable through any of the supported smartphones (iOS and Android), while its range extends to the limit where customers have access to a wireless connection or an AT&T mobile network. The feature might come in handy to ensure if your car is locked or starting the car remotely before you walk out of the house to save time.
