Residents of New York witnessed the most fuel-efficient car arriving at their streets. Volkswagen XL1 was spotted at different instances, appealing the concentrations. The public appearance at New York was a chapter of one-month long American tour series, followed by Washington D.C. and Los Angeles.

Coming to the specifications of this specific vehicle, it has got a diesel electric plug-in hybrid drive system with rear-wheel drive. Equipped with a TDI clean diesel two cylinder engine and 5.5 kWh lithium-ion battery, the car can easily range its capacity up to 830cc. Moreover, the vehicle encloses a seven-speed DSG automatic transmission and has the EV/TDI range of more than 310 miles.

It seems that the designers and engineers have put their extensive efforts to sustain the style and aerodynamics at the same time. Volkswagen XL1has a classic sporty look with the ability to drag itself at a top speed of 99 mph. In body dimensions, this creation is marginally longer and wider than a conventional car, but quite taller than one can expect. Still, the sleek design allows the transport to achieve 62 mph in just 12.7 seconds.

It is claimed by the manufacturers that XL1 is among the most eco-friendly vehicles ever produced. It is said to omit only 21 grams of Carbon Dioxide at a drive of each kilometer. Furthermore, it will be capable of covering more than 300 miles of distance in just a single 10 liter fuel tank.

It has already been announced that 250 number of vehicles will be manufactured at Osnabrück production facility at Germany, in a short time. Each will be initially offered at a retail price of $145,000.
