How to keep your sports car in tiptop condition

Alfa Romeo 4C 2 SeaterSo you’ve bought your 4C 2 seater and it’s waiting on your drive to be tamed. Before you take it for its maiden spin you should know how to best look after your sports car and keep it in the best condition possible.

After all, what’s the point in spending tens of thousands of pounds on something if you’re not going to look after it?

Inspect before you drive

Before you set off on a journey make sure you check your brakes, oil and the tyres. The chances are you’re going to be driving at high speed and so it’s absolutely vital your brakes and tyres are in order, not only for your safety, but for everyone else around you too.

Keep it under cover

You should see your sports car as part of your family, a child that you love and respect. Would you leave your child out on the driveway, open to the harsh elements? Of course you wouldn’t, and so you should keep your car under cover, preferably in a garage, to protect it from the worst that Mother Nature can throw at it.

If you haven’t got a garage, or there’s simply not enough space in it, then you should buy covers to keep your motor as snug as a bug. Avoid keeping it under a tree as falling branches can scratch the glass and metalwork, and birds will not take into consideration how expensive a car is before they do their business all over it.

Servicing

You may want to do a bit of research to see if there are any specialist garages near you where you can get your sports car serviced. Bought that aforementioned Alfa Romeo 4C? Head to www.alfaromeo.co.uk to find out where’s best to service your motor.

Get it cleaned

Drivers with ordinary cars will pop to their local car wash every now and then, usually when their vehicle is absolutely caked in mud or their windscreen plastered in bird droppings.

It’s a completely different story if you’re the owner of a sports car though, because appearances are absolutely everything. Try and wash it, whether you do it yourself or you go to a car wash, at least once a week to keep it gleaming proudly.

Make vital replacements

Once you’ve clocked up a few thousand glorious and adrenaline filled miles, you’re going to want to replace the oil, the filters and the tyres. By keeping on top of things like this you’ll avoid issues further down the line.
