Sports Car Made For the Road: Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570 – 4 Squadra Corse

Lamborghini Gallardo LP 570Lamborghini’s reputation for incredible fast cars has taken its fans on the edge with their latest version of the largely popular Gallardo, and the company claims that it is the fastest addition to the line so far. The  car will be officially shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September and by the looks of it, it is set to be a hit. The name, Squadra Corse is taken from the name plate of the latest sports division by Lamborghini. The company brags of its amazing performance on the road and judging from their reputation, I am sure the brag is not an empty one.

Engine:

While official road tests are still a short way off, judging from the specs, it seems as if the Squadra Corse is set to be a sports car legally meant for the road. The car is fitted with the same V10 engine which can also be found in its sports car version (Gallardo Super Trofeo), having 570 worth of horsepower and 399 lb ft of torque. Performance is optimized at 8000 RPM and the six speed robotized transmission system works very well with the gear box.

Braking and Handling:

The top speed, as released by the company, is at an impressive 199 MPH and the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 in 3.4 seconds. The breaking power has been improved and the vehicle can now come to a complete stop from 124 MPH within 10.4 seconds. The upgraded version consists of carbon ceramic disc brakes, which are considered to be the best and complement this fast car well, keeping the driver safe on the road amongst traffic. An addition to the exterior is the new carbon fiber rear wing which enhances the overall aerodynamics of the vehicle. This results in better handling and a more sure footed driving experience necessary for such a fast car on the road, as it helps in moving smoothly around corners. The body of Squadra Corse is mainly made up of carbon fiber along with aluminum to keep the weight down, so the total weight of the car is 1340 kg, which seems pretty reasonable to me.

Exterior:

The exterior of the Squadra Corse has been inspired from the Gallardo Super Trofeo Track Car to give drivers a sports car experience, although it is not too similar, as it has been adapted to and features have been enhanced for road travel. The hood has been made such that it can be removed. It is designed with a quick release system to make its removal smooth, while the rear wing stays in place. Both components are made up of carbon fiber to keep the total weight down. The standard color scheme on it is of red and green. However, if customers prefer a more muted exterior then the car is also available in neutral colors such as Grigio Thalasso (grey) and Bianco Monocerus (white).

Interior:

Again carbon fiber has been used for the interior in black which goes well with the exterior. The interior design is very convenient with seats, hand brake and gear box placed in good positions. Interested buyers can also opt for standard comfort seats rather than the race spec bucket seats that complement the sporty exterior and keep the driver well placed during driving.

Although their specs vary, Squadra Corse’s closest competitors are most likely going to be Mercedes SLS and the Audi R8. The car is definitely for those with deep pockets as the price has been confirmed to be around a whopping $260,000!
